Day Academy presents: The History of Connecticut Lecture Series
Prof. Jared N. Day, PhD will lead 24 LIVE interactive lectures on ZOOM, discussing the history of Connecticut from the time of Native American settlement to the mid-20th century. We will cover a broad range of topics including the founding of the city of Hartford, gun and brass manufacturing in the state, cultural icons such as Mark Twain, Harriet Beecher Stowe and Katherine Hepburn, and iconic businesses in the state such as Electric Boat, Pratt and Whitney and G. Fox.
The lectures will be presented one lecture per week for 24 weeks. The live series begins on July 3rd, 2024 at 1:00 PM (ET) time.

The Connecticut We Know: Connecticut in the Mid-20th Century

This set of 4 lectures examines the emergence of modern Connecticut in the mid-20th century with special focus on the rise and decline of major urban centers such as Hartford, New Haven, and Bridgeport. We will also explore how de-industrialization transformed once thriving cities. We will also examine the growing importance of the African American community in places like Hartford where the battled for better education, housing and infrastructure ignited a political revolution.
